Adult learners
Gain skills to progress your career, start your own business, return to work or develop a hobby as an adult learner at Southern Queensland Institute of TAFE.
Courses for adult learners
Short and part-time courses, certificates to diploma and advanced diploma level courses are open for enrolment.
If you haven't completed your senior studies or received an OP, complete the Access 10 or Adult Tertiary Preparation (ATP) programs. These programs are designed for adult learners so that you can access tertiary programs which need a QTAC entry. It also provides students with the knowledge, skills and confidence needed for successful tertiary study.
Choose from our wide range of courses.
Apprenticeships and traineeships for adult learners
There are many apprenticeship and traineeship opportunities for older workers especially in skills shortage industries.
Your existing skills and experience may provide you with credit and may reduce your training time. Even if you have never formally studied or trained in a particular area, you may have gained knowledge and skills through your education, training, work and life experience.
Recognition of prior learning (RPL), is the formal recognition of a person's current skills and knowledge, no matter how, when or where the learning occurred. Discuss the RPL process with your training provider.
For more information visit our apprentices and trainee page or contact the Customer service centre at a campus near you.
Career pathways
Southern Queensland Institute of TAFE can tailor your study or training to your needs. The courses are designed in consultation with stakeholders such as enterprise management, IR professionals and career counsellors to meet not only the needs of the participants but to ensure that appropriate pathways are followed to give the most desirable outcomes.
Some examples may be:
-
A hairdresser wants to gain higher prospects to become an area manager. She/he may require a Diploma in Business and advanced skills in people management. They would enrol in the Diploma and opt for a flexible delivery model and then have Business Strategies design a short course in people skills and communications to supplement the academics of the qualification.
-
A carpenter wants to go into his/her own business. They enrol in a Diploma of Management and have our staff design a course to address small business financial packages (MYOB or QuickBooks) and a course in Workplace Health and Safety in the construction electives.
Recognition of prior learning and credit transfer
If you have completed previous study or work experience, you may be able to fast track your training with recognition of prior learning and credit transfer.
