Refund policy
Refunds for international students at Southern Queensland Institute of TAFE are made according to the policy below.
How to apply for a refund
- All applications for refunds must be made in writing. Complete the Application for Refund form available from Customer Service Centre or International Student Administration.
- Forward the application to the Senior Support Service Manager by registered mail, courier or personal delivery as soon as you are able to do so.
- Full refunds of amounts owed to the student will be made within 14 days of receipt of the signed Application for Refund.
Eligibility for a refund
You are eligible for a refund when:
- your initial application for a visa is rejected before the course starts
After we receive your letter of visa rejection Southern Queensland Institute of TAFE will refund all tuition fees, less a registration fee of $300.
- when you withdraw from study
- if Permanent Resident status is granted during the formal course
- if the Southern Queensland Institute of TAFE excludes you from continuing formal studies
- if your application for a visa extension is rejected or existing visa is cancelled by the Department of Immigration and Citizenship due to actions of the student.
- if you withdraw from your formal course for any reason, excluding initial visa rejection
- more than 28 days before the course begins we will refund the first semester of your tuition fees, less an administration Charge of 10% of this installment
- less than 28 days before the course begins we will refund the first semester of your tuition fees, less an Administration Charge of 20% of this instalment.
- after the course begins we will not refund the semester's tuition fees.
- In the unlikely event that the Southern Queensland Institute of TAFE is unable to deliver your course in full, a refund will be offered for all course monies paid to date.
The refund will be paid within 2 weeks of the day in which the course ceased being provided. Alternatively an offer may be made to enrol in an alternative course (of equal duration) at no extra cost. Students have the right to choose between a full refund of course fees or to accept a place in another course. If placement in another course is chosen students will be asked to sign a document to indicate acceptance of this placement.
- Compulsory health insurance (OHSC) paid to Southern Queensland Institute of TAFE and forwarded to OSHC provider - refer student directly to OSHC provider for any possible refund entitlement. If not yet passed on this is to be refunded in full. This normally occurs within 2-3 days of receipt.
- Accommodation booking fees and airport pick-up - full refund if service cancelled before bookings / flight arrival only.
Conditional offers
It is the responsibility of applicants to provide the Southern Queensland Institute of TAFE with evidence that conditions have been satisfied prior to entry to course as stated in the Letter of Offer, before that course begins. Penalties will apply if the applicant is unable to satisfy these conditions of entry or if they do not advise SQIT and subsequently have to withdraw from the conditional offer.
Non payment of fees
Southern Queensland Institute of TAFE reserves the right to withhold granting the Award attained by the student if student fees remain outstanding.
This agreement does not remove the right to take further action under Australia's Consumer Protection Laws and the dispute resolution processes at SQIT do not circumscribe the right to pursue other legal remedies.
