Course summary |
This qualification is designed to provide training in installing gas systems. This may include installation of appliances, gas detection, LP gas storage, appliance flues and gas piping systems.
This program provides students with the skills and knowledge necessary for people licensed in Queensland to work safely and efficiently as Gas Installers. On completion of this program the student will be able to: work in the gas industry with the skills and knowledge required for planning, installation and commissioning of gas installations, complete forms, attend to notices and perform record keeping as required by gas fitters, install gas equipment and gas appliances to the standard required by the relevant Acts, Standards, Regulations and Codes of the Gas Industry, size, install, test and purge gas pipe work to safe working conditions; install, test and commission gas appliances to provide safe operating conditions, size, install and test the flue systems components to provide safe operating conditions. |

Completion of Year 10 is desirable. Completion of a pre vocational course and/or pre apprenticeship course in plumbing would be an advantage.
A person will be eligible to enrol in this course if they provide documentary evidence showing they: (1) have successfully completed the course of instruction at an Institute of TAFE in the Plumbing Trade, or are qualified licensed plumbers; or (2) are qualified engineers employed in an Engineering Profession which is approved by the Chief Gas Examiner and is suitably allied to the gas industry; or (3) have successfully completed the course of instruction at an Institute of TAFE in a trade calling which is, in the opinion of the Chief Gas Examiner, suitably allied to the gas industry, ie: Engineering Tradesperson Mechanical Refrigeration; or Engineering Tradesperson Electrical; or Engineering Tradesperson - Mechanical (Fitting, Turning, Machining, Fitting/Turning, Fitting/Machining and 1st Class Machining only); or Engineering Tradesperson - Fabrication (Heavy) (4) Gas Service-persons Holders of a Gas Servicing License issued before 1 January 1997 may apply to the Chief Gas Examiner to enter this course. Applications must include evidence of gas servicing work over a period of at least five years. Approval is subject to satisfactory work during that period, which may be assessed by inspection and, at the discretion of the Chief Gas Examiner, theoretical and/or practical testing of gas servicing skills. Holders of a Gas Servicing License issued after 1 January 1997 are required to complete a preparatory course. Details of this preparatory course are available from the Customer Service Centre. People seeking enrolment (to contribute to a Service Person outcome) will require a letter of authorisation to enrol from the Chief Gas Examiner. People seeking enrolment in the subjects (to contribute to a Gas Industry Person outcome) should apply to the Chief Gas Examiner. A letter of authorisation to enrol from that office is required prior to enrolment. |
