What is a prescribed occupation?
A person must hold a certificate of competency before they perform any work in a prescribed occupation such as:
-
cranes and hoist operators
-
load shifting equipment operators
-
riggers
-
doggers and
-
scaffolders.
There are potential risks associated with operating certain plant and equipment. To ensure operators, working within a prescribed occupation, have the appropriate skills and knowledge, it is a requirement under the Workplace Health and Safety (WH&S) Regulation 2008 to undertake training and hold the appropriate authority.
Training and assessment
Southern Queensland Institute of TAFE offers training and assessment in prescribed occupations at all suitable locations subject to demand. Our courses are delivered to meet all Queensland WH&S certification standards.
