Futures Restaurant at TAFE open to public!
Monday, 14 September 2009
The Southern Queensland Institute of TAFE is best known to the people of southern Queensland as the region's premier provider of industry-focussed vocational training.
What might not be as well known is that the general public can avail themselves of several of SQIT's services - and at a minimal cost.
Futures Restaurant, located at SQIT's Toowoomba campus, is a training restaurant used for teaching hospitality and cookery students.
Leading vocational teacher at SQIT Chris Clark said Futures was open to the general public offering a variety of cuisine to the dining public, just as commercial restaurants do.
"The philosophy is that, in order for students to attain the skills needed by industry, it's necessary to teach them in an environment as near as possible to the real thing," Mr Clark said.
Futures' kitchen is a fully appointed modern facility and is the standard of commercial restaurant kitchens.
It provides students with an experience of kitchens in which they would cook while working in the hospitality industry.
Similarly, SQIT's Toowoomba campus has a suite of beauty therapy services to pamper members of the public.
Clients can treat themselves to a full day spa with massage, artificial nail, lash and facial services.
SQIT's fully working hair salon is a modern facility offering the latest hairstyles.
However, the difference between it and commercial salons is that it has enough basins and dryers to teach an entire class at once.
All these SQIT services allow students to explore and develop their talents with real customers.
Hospitality and beauty therapy students pamper their clients under the supervision of industry-experienced teachers.
Futures is open for lunch (noon) most Tuesday, Wednesdays and Fridays for lunch and Thursday for dinner (from 6.30pm) from March through to the end of November.
Bookings can be made by ringing 4694 1665.
For beauty therapy services information and bookings telephone 4694 1660.
